Vegetarian and Vegan Diets
Kids can totally eat a vegetarian or vegan diet. The main concern is to ensure their protein intake is still good by taking in enough tofu, lentils, beans…etc. to match the protein intake of their omnivore friends. Where we can get into trouble is when kids in a vegetarian/vegan household enters the usual 18 month to 4-year picky eating phase which can limit their already limited diet and sway it toward eating an unhealthy quantity of carbs. Goldfish crackers does not count as a pescatarian diet, unfortunately. If this is occurring, you should have a chat with your pediatrician to make sure they are still getting sufficient amounts of all the necessary amino acids and vitamins like folate and B12.
