Vitamins
Most non-breastfeeding kiddos don’t need extra vitamins (aside from the vitamin K shot at birth to prevent bleeding disorders); however, breastfed only babies should get a vitamin D drop daily. In a normal 1st world country, it is hard to not get enough essential vitamins from your diet. The one caveat to this rule, in our lovely Pacific Northwest, is Vitamin D. During the fall and winter months, most kiddos I test in clinic are vitamin D deficient due to the lack of sunshine in our evergreen state. So having them take an extra 400 -600 IU per day is not a bad idea to help keep the immune system and overall mood up in the darkest of months. But once the sun is shining kick their booties outside to get some natural and more efficiently utilized vitamin D.
